The team in Department of Medicine at Mackay Base Hospital is seeking applications for a Staff Specialist – Endocrinology (Diabetes) to join their team on a Permanent Full-Time basis (80 hrs p.f.).

The district covers an area of approximately 90,000km2 and provides services to patients and their families in Bowen, Cannonvale, Clermont, Collinsville, Dysart, Glenden, Mackay, Middlemount, Moranbah, Proserpine and Sarina in North Queensland, Australia.

Fully supported by Executive, Clinical and Operational Leads to be the leader who drives evidence based[CM1] practice improvements, ensuring we deliver an outstanding Diabetes service for the community. Following the Getting it Right First Time (GIRFT) recent assessment the MHHS rise to the challenge of delivering excellence in diabetes care. This will be delivered through your passion for improving patient care and optimising health outcomes. You will be joining a small but highly functional and committed multidisciplinary diabetes team on site, with additional support from tertiary hospitals across the region. Enhancing current services by standardising care pathways and reducing unwanted variation through your unwavering leadership supported by your committed diabetes teams.

Appointment to this position requires the proof of Specialist registration in the field of Endocrinology with the Medical Board of Australia, or eligibility to hold Specialist registration or relevant registration enabling clinical work within the role. The applicant must be registered or imminently able to be registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA) as a Medical Practitioner.
Fellowship or eligibility for Fellowship via the substantial comparability pathway of the Royal Australian College of Physicians (RACP) including maintenance of Continuing Professional Development and good standing as required by AHPRA for the maintenance of Specialist Registration.
The applicant must be able to demonstrate recent clinical practice relevant to the scope of this role, consistent with the Medical Board of Australia's registration standards.
