Department Overview
The Oregon National Primate Center (ONPRC) is located 12 miles west of the OHSU main campus, and sits on 162 acres of land featuring forested areas, research and administration buildings, indoor and outdoor animal housing, and 2-mile perimeter walking path. Our mission is to improve human health and the quality of life through the support of nonhuman primate research programs that advance our knowledge of the causes, preventions, treatments, and cures of debilitating diseases.
Function/Duties of Position
This position oversees all operations of the ONPRC Endocrine Technologies Core (ETC), which includes manage core staff, maintain up-to-date knowledge of and familiarity with state-of-the-art and emerging endocrine assay technologies, serve as the primary liaison with internal and external core clients, schedule biannual oversight committee meetings and provide regular updates to same and to the Associate Director for Research.
This position also works with the ONPRC business office to develop and manage annual core operating budgets, set prices on services provided, recommend equipment replacement/upgrades, and new instrument acquisition with input from the oversight committee for Associate Director for Research and business office approval.
The Core Director will present new technology development at appropriate institutional and national meetings/conferences, when applicable, and in core publications.
The Core Director will also be responsible for contributing to the P51 core grant renewal in writing the ETC section and the annual progress report.
Manage core staff.
Maintain core instrumentation.
Preparation of core grant reports, presentations, grants, and publications.
Communicate with internal and external core clients.
Review and oversee core budget, review prices, and work with business office on equipment procurement.
Required Qualifications
Master's Degree or higher degree in relevant field.
7 years of experience in relevant field.
Comprehensive knowledge of development, validation, and performance of a wide array of endocrine assay techniques, including EIA, RIA, and LC-MS/MS.
Preferred Qualifications
PhD in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field and 7 years of relevant post-doc or work experience.
Relevant post-doctoral work and leadership experience.
3+ years of experience working in endocrine or clinical labs.
Candidates must have 5 years of relevant experience.
Evidence of national reputation in the field as demonstrated by research products is required.
Additional Details
Regular 8am-5pm, 40-hour work week with some weekend/outside of regular business hour work to meet deadlines. Exposure to nonhuman primate samples potentially harboring SIV or herpes B virus.
